Lifting medium: The type of material used to do the lifting. This can be either chain, or rope.

Operation: The type of power that is used to operate the motion of the hoist. Types of operation can be pneumatic, electric, or manual power.

Suspension: The method used to suspend, or mount the hoist. These can be trolley mounted, lug mounted, or hook mounted.

Hoist Selection

Precise planning is the most-important factor in selecting the right hoist for a job. During this process, engineers, operators, manufacturers, work together to identify requirements, and available resources.

The type of hoist that is needed is determined by its application, such as whether it is going to be used for lifting only, or for both lifting and moving.

The capacity of the hoist in terms of how much weight it will lift is another factor. Other considerations include where the hoist will be mounted, the height of the lift, and the interfaces the operator will use to operate the lift. Available interfaces include push-button pendants, or hand chains.

Critical to finding the right Harrington chain hoist is frequency of use. If loads are to be lifted and moved frequently, then an electric chain hoist is the best choice. If the hoist will only be used occasionally, a hand chain hoist should suffice.
